What We Want

WE WANT TO KEEP the job growth momentum going and ask government to do everything it can to make Oregon a competitive place to start, grow and maintain a business.

WE BELIEVE THAT Oregon business is the solution—not the problem. We want people to know that.

WE WANT EVERY DOLLAR that we send to state government to be spent wisely—especially in our schools. Educated Oregonians, whether they excel in math or shop class, are key to keeping and growing job opportunities here.

Oregon Leaders Gather to Discuss 2017 Plans

This week the Oregon Business Plan hosted the 14th annual Oregon Leadership Summit, a gathering of business leaders, elected officials, and other stakeholders.

After the first significant win in decades, defeating the tax on Oregon sales (Measure 97), business leaders were excited to connect and plan for the coming legislative session. People attending the event were well aware of the harsh realities facing Oregon lawmakers, business leaders, and citizens in the coming year. State revenue is growing, but expenses are rising faster. As anyone maintaining a household budget knows, that isn’t sustainable.

To hear how Oregon leaders plan to address this problem, click here.

With all of your help, we defeated Measure 97, the $6 billion tax on sales.

Let’s stay together. Stick with us as we ask our Oregon lawmakers to:
- Spend every dollar that we send to state government wisely; and
- Make Oregon a competitive place to start, maintain and grow a business.

Engage Oregon is a coalition that embodies these values and wants to keep everyone engaged in the conversation about state government priorities in Oregon. Now that our campaign is over, we’re ready to keep up the momentum. Stay with Engage Oregon for a place to plug in as we continue the important work we started in 2016.

Tom SpiveyThis is the result of an unholy alliance between public employee unions and corrupt Democrat politicians. Should you have expected anything different?

Mark SturboisWhy not fix the main cost driver which is healthcare and stop talking it out on people's pensions? Maybe work on a more equitable tax system would help.

Bob KrisherOur representatives are failing to act and solve the problems. Rather ,letting the solutions fall on future generations. Nothing in government has changed. Let the problems go on till the are too big to manage, then fix the little ones and make a big deal about those solutions. Get to work and solve the big problems, you irresponsibles in Salem!

James HavlinekWith the legislature ruled by Portlandia, DemocRats, and no leadership......our children, their children and their children's children will slave under excessive taxation to pay off the promises to the unions in this state. Total incompetence from government, most staff and the union thugs that keep the lie alive. Oregon is becoming a business wasteland and the "loyal subjects" in Portlandia beckon to the causes of free stuff and a business killing minimum wage. Marxism at it's finest.

Pete PetersonUnion people work for going raises for years being told it will be paid in your pension that's one thing but then you have people drawing pensions of $150,000 a year that's where you need to draw the line and say really know we're not gonna pay you more than a year to not work

Maxine FulksFix this monstrosity now and not on the backs of the taxpayers of Oregon. You made the mess, you clean it up by cutting the pork.

Jean GlassfordThey...the State....should of thought of that many years ago! Kinda late as these people worked under the assurance they'd get PERS. so now back it off of every new employee. Cut pencil pushers or should I say smart phone/computer gamers/talkers. Then only add .3% increase in wages like SSI to seniors are getting. Cut the fat & you'll find you money

Carol MccleearyBefore you voted for your Governor or any Oregon politicians, did you think of the present state of our economy??? Do you think the Oregonians need to vote for change in our present elected politicians?? Forget the "good ole boy" system! Our present politicians are not accountable for how they're spending our money.

Ron ChamnessThe advantage with PERS is you will get the proper amount you've saved over the years..... Social Security cannot make that same promise without saying their running out of funds! The Democratic party got their sticky fingers which have stolen 2.3 TRILLION dollars for their pet projects and never having to repay the people who trusted it! PERS works for me!

Scott MillsWhere is the outrage over Enron stock swap that cost PERs hundreds of millions of lost dollars. Where is the outrage over the fed ( Goldman Sachs ) keeping the interest rates at near ZERO preventing the actuarial assumption being met by all pension plans. Where is the outrage over the republicans ignoring warnings over the changes to PERs by Orange jumpsuit Sizemore. Where is the outrage over the fake LLC bankruptcies voiding the value of shares held by PERs. Where is the outrage of offshoring profit hiding it from shareholders and taxing last count 2.4 trillion maybe some could reduce the states obligation by a lot.

Joseph BainPast due. The Dems have resisted attempts to work on this issue for years n now we're going to get screwed n they will use this as an excuse to try get mire tax money 💰 out of us.

Richard MatsonIt's not the current politicians that are responsible for the PERS bill, you will need to go back 20 to 40 years and see which ones were spending more then they should have. It was easy to pay employees less back then with the promise of a better retirement. We are doing to the same with the national dept, and over population. Just kick the can down the road.

Bob ScottMaybe the Fire Departments/Districts, Police Dept, Schools, Cities, and the State etc, should not have negotiated PERS benefits in lieu of wages over the last 50 years or longer...

Carol LeeThe problem is that former college coaches receive hundreds of thousands of dollars yearly because they were over paid while employed and that is just one example. If there is reform, of course, we little people will receive the cuts. I don't know what the answer is but I do know that what little we little people receive is what we put in to it.

Oregon's jobless rate fell again last month, but job creation is slowing. Now, supporters of Measure 97 want to push a similar tax on Oregon sales through the state legislature. Voters made the call in November: taxing job providers is not the answer to Oregon's fiscal problem. Sign the Engage Oregon petition to tell state lawmakers that we want to see job creation strategies coupled with responsible government spending. engageoregon.org/web-petition/ ... See MoreSee Less
