What We Want

WE WANT TO KEEP the job growth momentum going and ask government to do everything it can to make Oregon a competitive place to start, grow and maintain a business.

WE BELIEVE THAT Oregon business is the solution—not the problem. We want people to know that.

WE WANT EVERY DOLLAR that we send to state government to be spent wisely—especially in our schools. Educated Oregonians, whether they excel in math or shop class, are key to keeping and growing job opportunities here.

Oregon Leaders Hosting Budget Town Halls

This week the Oregon legislators working on the state’s next 2 year budget will begin a series of Town Halls across the state. Crafting the state budget is no easy feat and requires difficult trade-offs between competing programs and services.  Here’s where we need your voice to tell the Legislature what really matters to you.

Tell Legislators: Before making cuts to education, healthcare and other essential services for Oregonians, they must curb Oregon’s rapidly rising Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) costs and high government employee healthcare costs.

To find more information on our priorities and where a town hall near you is taking place, click here.

Bev RitchThe men and women who get PERS EARNED it. It is their RETIREMENT. So if you have to make adjustments in the budget, how about following FEDERAL LAW and stop giving free benefits to ILLEGAL ALIENS. State would save a lot more money that way anyway.

Alana AlexanderPERS did it! The Russians did it! Anybody but the lame Democratic government that is throwing Oregon tax dollars away! LEAVE PERS ALONE! AUDIT OREGON GOVERNMENT SPENDING!!!!

Loren N Kelly WeidemanHow can you say that its the states money, when I had 6%of my gross income withhold from my paycheck every mouth.Jest like social security is withheld every month. I worked hard for my PERS retirement, it's not a hand out! Leave PERS Alone! It s not an entitlement, like thay says about social security.

Russ CopelandI work for a local high school and my retirement is no better then a 401K the people who are raping the system are getting 30 grand a month google the highest PERS payouts and you will see who gets the cash. they are going to cut my retirement by 14% when I retire I will get less then a 401K ! Its not PERS its government spending that's out of control.

Cindy VanBeek Sweet40 years ago I agreed to work in public service and had another retirement. Then along came the state and mandated that all public employees retirement systems had to be equal to or better than the STATE system PERS. As result all public employees were forced into PERS by contracts. And PERS and the State made contracts with us. They required we contribute so much each month and our employers were supposed to match. What the stupid state didn't require is that the employer keep up. They were allowed to get behind and when they didn't they didn't make the same interest we did. So when they tried to catch up they got stuck owing there match plus interest. It's not the contracted employees fault that our employers were too stupid to keep up. It's still a contract and has been upheld in court many times. Also not our fault that the state included Doctors, the Governor, Judges and the way overpaid professors in collages in the system. It was originally intended for the working public employees. Want to shift blame point to all the elected officials who also have PERS but a higher plan than the rest of us. Ok I'm done with my rant. But do get tired of everyone blaming public employees for the mismanagement of Oregons budget.

Rick LawrenceThe problem isn't with PERS. The problem is with the two major unions robbing the PERS trust funds blind. Kick out the Teacher's union and SEIU health care insurance scam and their illegal retirement negotiations in a retirement system they don't even own. like Scott Walker did in Wisconsin and PERS will become solvent. Get off of PERS and blame the real problem here. Union corruption.

Robin McCordPERS is funded by employers and employees, not your taxes. No doubt the PERS fund has been mismanaged, as is just about every pool of money government controls, but the beneficiaries shouldn't be punished for that.

Jeanne Kinzer Jones WurzburgI got a cut in my PERS retirement several times, and my wages were frozen for several years. Oregon fiddles away a lot of money on frivolous things, those should be cut first.

2 days ago   ·  6

Phillip BunnYes, Heaven forbid you should make good on what you promised your employees and what they earned. PERS isn't the problem. Flippantly committing more funds than you have the bankroll for is the problem.

Jason ProphetFrist it was logging and fishing made Oregon grow. We lost that ,the lottery was going to save Oregon just had to have the gambling in Oregon ,now it's the god dam cannibas which the state government will mismanage until it's broken

Deb Flugit was the unions at the time that set the PERS rate...and the employees contributed to the fund also. Give them what they have coming...just like Social Security, stop stealing from the fund..from the ones who earned it!

2 days ago   ·  3

Lynn FredricksDrive by headlines doesn't help anyone, but if you are a PERS receiver, you know your unions are opposing any sort of fix that means future benefits are affected. That's why the public targets the entire program. Better to be a part of the reformation and minimize losses than oppose all reforms.

Rocky CrismanPERS recipients earned this instead of pay for many years. Failure to plan $$ accordingly is just complete failure to admit reality by OR legislature for MANY years. Now even more cuts required than if had used pay as you go economic plan.

Dee ShultzThe problem started when management OFFERED up the Match Fund in lieu of a 2% raise. That raise request was after years of no increases. THEN the powers that be did NOT project out or forecast correctly. They put off and put off corrections to that. The same way they put off a lot of problems in Oregon. Don't blame retirees......My husband's retirement benefits from private is a hell of a lot better than mine.

Nancy Lynn Owens-BigleyWho is going to back a government reneging on retirement? Use some of the billions you are making on exorbitant tax of marijuana to fill this gap. It's the people's money. Use it for the people!

2 days ago   ·  3

Steve KilmerYou pers recipients sure do cry a lot, you didn't make a contract with your employer, because we the people of oregon are your employer and we had no say in your piramid scheme you and the Democrats came up with.

Donna Swint-PruittSince I have lived and worked for the state they have been trying to get their hands in the PET's coffers. Alana is right, there is a lot of places they can cut money. On e they get their greedy hands on PER's it will be just like Social security, broke. They raided social security to pay for the Vietnam war and haven't stopped stealing from it since.

Dave VoilesSick and tired of hearing about a runaway PERS program. Put the focus where it belongs on the runaway frivolous state spending and poor budgeting. This is what happens folks when you vote for people that only care about keeping their base happy instead of doing the right thing. When they take money from outsiders and become their slaves.

Scott NorrisIf you want to hold someone accountable look at the political folks who have been in Salem for the last 20+ years and vote them out. Also change PERS so that the legislature is not part of the PERS system.

2 days ago   ·  1

Frank HannumThe problem with trying to "get PERS costs under control" is that the State of Oregon signed a contract with the workers. It was luxurious and unsustainable (by private industry standards) and the government knew it. Yet they did it anyway. Just like the Oregon Health Care Plan and dozens of other "plans" by the Oregon legislature. The problem isn't the state employees who only took the deal that was being offered to them, the problem is the Legislators and Governors who promote fiscally irresponsible, liberal policies. Oh, and the people who vote for them. So stop targeting PERS because there are "more of us than them" and you "feel" like there is an opportunity "to make a difference". If you want to make a difference then work to replace liberal Democrats with conservative Republicans in our government.

Randy HettwerThis is all money that should have been put aside drawing interest for all who earned it.The State should not have to save anything towards this.Unless of course they have been dipping into it and wasting it on other things it was not intended for.Just like congress did with S.S. benefits.

Lori BrakeNope its gov mandated healthcare for everyone..PERS is the excuse..unemployment raye is fake too...more peoplw working in 90s than now...

Mark A. StevensonAll these people saying they paid this or that -- remember who paid your income ! The tax payer - should you get something sure -- but your also getting social security ! Most people just get SS ! And if you didn't save something when you made our six figures - shame on you ! The tax payer beef isn't against the city employee who made 30 40 or 50 k - it's the public employee who made 6 figs and gets pets with SS

William R. Giersdorfyou know what would help? pass a law that makes all legislators work for minimum wage and do away with all laws and ammendments that make state and federal legislators exempt from the laws they pass... pretty soon you won't see stupid shit coming out of the state or federal legislature
